Welcome to the Kelly-Oster School of Irish Dance
After 35 years,
The Kelly-Oster School of Irish Dance closed on July 7, 2019.
All good things must come to an end. It's been a great 35 years and we have many memories and great accomplishments to show for it.
Kerry Kelly-Oster started teaching Irish dance in 1984 with a handful of students in Peekskill, NY. This small class turned into a Champion Irish dance school, with hundreds of children passing through its doors. At one point, there were 4 class locations in Northern Westchester, Putnam & Southern Dutchess Counties.
Students have competed all over the world, from the annual Putnam County Feis to the World Championships in Ireland. Dancers have even performed on great stages such as Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall & in front of the White House. Since 2010, the school has had a perment home at their dance studio in Baldwin Place, NY.
Over the years, the Kelly-Oster School has collected competition titles such as;
Mid-Atlantic Oireachtas Champion - Boys Under 8, James Mullaney
New England Oireachtas Champion - Girls Under 9, Jillian Darby
Eastern Region Team Champions: Minor Ceili, Minor 4-hand, Adult 4-hand, Minor Drama, Junior Drama & Senior Drama.
Mid-Atlantic Oireachtas Champions: Dance Drama
North American Irish Dance Team Champions: Minor Figure Choreography
Not to mention numerous team & solo medal holders at the All-Ireland & World Championships, including the 2013 Dance Drama that took placed 3rd at the Worlds.
Kerry's 3 daughters all grew up learning & competing in Irish dance. In 2002, her oldest daughter Karyn became a certified TCRG (and later ADCRG in 2010) and has been teaching with the school for the past 15 years. Meghan, Kerry's youngest daughter, also achieved her TCRG in 2005. Now Kerry's 4 grand-daughters are learning the first steps to carry on the tradition, as are many of the children of former KKO dancers as well.
But as life progresses and time moves on, things change. This summer, Kerry's daughter Meghan will be moving to Nashville, TN with her family for work. Karyn has decided to also move with them as support and to be closer to her 4 nieces. Therefore, the Kelly-Oster School will be closing its doors on July 7, 2019.
Fortunately, in the last 2 years, an old Irish dance friend has joined the school as a co-teacher and plans to uphold a lot of KKO traditions as she embarks on a new adventure of opening her own school. Katie Roper Izzo, TCRG will be opening Clan na hEireann this summer. Kerry Kelly-Oster will be staying on to teacher and as a support system with many years of experience to offer Katie. We wish Miss Katie the very best of luck as she starts her new Irish dance school.
The Kelly-Oster family would like to thank all those that touched our hearts by dancing in class or performing on stage with us over the last 35 years. We have memories to last a lifetime, and have made wonderful friendships that we could never forget. Thank you for all the love and support you've shown over the past 35 years. Truly, this experience would not have been as wonderful with out all of you.
Kerry Kelly-Oster, Karyn Kelly Oster & Meghan Oster.
